Il était une fois – once upon a time, not so long ago, we would happily enter a bookshop for the next instalment from our favourite author. Or memories of finding an undiscovered book on a dusty library shelf could make a long cold winter seem much more inviting as you snuggled up in bed grasping the latest tale of terror or love in a forbidden place. But then the digital age entered our lives and changed them forever. Reading a book on an eReader doesn’t fulfil all the senses compared to a good old fashioned book. The look and feel of the cover, the anticipation of the synopsis on the back inviting me into read, and for me, the smell when I plunge my nose deep into the pages takes me back to a timeless moment of bliss.
The aroma of an untold story is an intoxicating as the words and the promise of a new world about to be opened up. Whether it be mystery, romance, untold secrets or tales from far away lands, smell plays an indelible part of a story.
On some devices such as the Kindle or iPad the former problems have been solved but the latter hasn’t. So with that in mind we have developed a new candle to burn as you read.
The masculine scent of vetivert, birch and cedar infused with vibrant spices combine to create the ambiance of a centuries old bibliothèque and a crisp promise of the words to come, all combine to evoke the fresh, crisp promise of the words to come.
So steal a few hours, light one of our candles and enjoy a good read.
Making of lampbase – click here to watch Dave!
Our new design earthenware lampbase is literally in the kiln. Holiday makers at Jersey Pottery this week enjoyed watching Dave throw the largest lampbase he had ever done. So long as it survives the glazing and firing process then we should have it in the shop very shortly.

Raising money for The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund
February is often a grey, dull month which makes it the perfect month to plan some new projects for your home. We have just returned from the shows in Paris and have some exciting and inspiring ideas to help you.
Key features that we liked included upholstery with large decorative nickel studs that gave chairs a modern feel.
Duck egg blue painted walls with black and white accessories to give your home an injection of spring like freshness.
Blacks, greys, neutrals and whites were very much in abundance with shots of accent colours such as turquoise and orange.
Chrome lamps and decorative accessories reminiscent of old English libraries were favourites.
In times of austerity comfort in the home is the key.
With all the festivities over it’s now back to work at the start of the new year and a new decade.
We have so many exciting plans so please keep an eye on us and we will keep you updated as each one comes into operation.
Happy New Year to you all.
Welcome to our new website.
Over the coming weeks we will be adding loads of new products. In the meantime feel free to phone us at the shop and we’ll be happy to help.
Our new website is part of the expansion process that the company is currently undergoing. We have recently moved into a fabulous new showroom in a converted mill which gives us a fantastic space in which to showcase our ever expanding range.
We welcome all your comments.
Frances Lamb.
